BENTAYGA S BLACK EDITION
Overview
The Bentayga S Black Edition is a special edition that takes the design edge of the Bentayga S and pushes it even further. With a selection of colour themes created by Bentley’s design team, it combines unique styling and rarity with the performance and technology of the Bentayga S.
Featuring black exterior detailing, the Bentayga S Black Edition offers a choice of new accent colours that can be applied to the brake callipers and a pinstripe painted on the bodykit – an eye-catching accent unique to this car. The combination of black and an accent colour is also seen on the inside, where carbon fibre and dark chrome lends the cabin a dark, purposeful appearance.
You can commission this car with either a twin-turbocharged 4.0 litre V8 engine or a 3.0 litre V6 plug-in hybrid. A showcase of Bentley design, it is among the most exciting SUVs on the road.
Design
For the first time ever, Bentley is offering a choice of six colours for the brake callipers: red, mandarin, yellow, blue, green or silver. The colour you choose is then also used to paint a pinstripe on the components of the car’s sleek black body kit. Its imposing 22” wheels are complemented by the inclusion of the Blackline Specification, which turns all of the exterior detailing black. The Bentayga S Black Edition sees the Bentley ‘wings’ badges turned black for the first time, along with the ‘BENTLEY’ wordmark on the tailgate. And to make the vehicle’s exclusive nature clear, there is a ‘Black Edition’ badge on each D-pillar.
As you step into the cabin, you will notice that the treadplates have been inscribed with the words, ‘Handcrafted in Crewe, England’. Inside, Bentley has created a new colour layout, unique to this car. It takes the accent colour used on the outside and applies it to the stitching, the piping and sections of the leather trim. An exclusive carbon fibre weave pattern is featured on the fascia and waistrails, and dark chrome has been applied to the switchgear, including the centre vents, the bullseye air vents and their organ-stop controls.
Performance
You can order the Bentayga S Black Edition with either a 4.0 litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine or a 3.0 litre plug-in hybrid powertrain, which gives you the ability to drive on electric power alone for limited distances.
The V8 engine is capable of generating 542 bhp (550 PS), which can propel you from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds), with a maximum speed of 180 mph (290 km/h). It comes with Bentley Dynamic Ride, a 48-volt electronic anti-roll system that tightens the suspension through corners for a greater sense of control, without compromising on the smooth ride you expect from a Bentley when cruising in a straight line. It is equipped with all-wheel steering, which offers two benefits: a smaller turning circle, which is useful when manoeuvring in tight spaces, and smoother lane changes at speed, for example when overtaking on the highway. It also includes an enhanced Sport Mode, which instantly tunes the car’s suspension and gearbox for more exhilarating driving, and a Sports Exhaust, for a more thrilling roar when you put your foot down.
The hybrid powertrain offers a maximum speed of 158 mph (254 km/h) when both the petrol engine and electric motor are engaged, and 84 mph (135 km/h) when driving on purely electric power – that’s enough to drive safely on most highways, while also giving you the ability to drive through ultra-lower emission zones.
Technology
The Bentayga S Black Edition features an impressive range of technology covering driving assistance and internet-connected services*, many of which are accessed via the My Bentley smartphone app. It includes a suite of assistance features aimed at making urban driving easier, including a 3D view of the environment around the car and alerts for numerous different hazards. Its Intelligent Park Assist function enables it to identify and select a suitable parking space and execute the parking manoeuvre, under your supervision **. You can even get out of the car first and use your smartphone to operate the car as it parks – useful if the spot is so tight you may find it difficult to open the door, or if the ground in the parking space is wet.
The services have been designed to offer a seamless experience, whether you use your smartphone or the car’s central touchscreen to access them. You can even use the Online Destination Import feature to find a destination on your phone, then send it to the car’s navigation system, so you don’t need to spend time entering address details via the touchscreen.
The new My Bentley App Studio, meanwhile, enables you to download the apps of your choice directly to your car. This means you can use your preferred navigation app, for example – and because it is running natively on the car’s system, rather than from your phone, it will have access to useful data such as your car’s range and fuel levels.
The optional Touring Specification adds a wealth of aids for driving on the open road, from night vision and a head-up display to Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Guidance, an advanced cruise control feature that includes alerts and feedback to help you stay in your lane. It also adds Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control, which extends many of the benefits that cruise control gives you on the highway to other major roads.
When it comes to comfort, the optional Front Seat Comfort Specification adds two ingenious features that will ensure you enjoy even the longest of journeys. Seat Auto Climate constantly monitors the heat and humidity at the surface of the seat, using the seat’s heating and ventilation functions to keep you feeling comfortable at all times. Postural Adjust uses air pockets beneath the seat’s surface to subtly vary the pressure on your muscles, to help prevent fatigue and stiffness from setting in.
